Monique lost 55 pounds | Black Weight Loss Success

Monique lost 55 pounds. She was tired of not feeling comfortable in her skin and tired of avoiding taking photos. With healthy food, exercise, and dedication, she has truly transformed both mentally and physically. Now, she’s a Certified Personal Trainer and a 3x Nationally Qualified NPC Figure Competitor.

What was your motivation?
My motivation was seeing myself in the mirror or the shower and realizing I wasn’t myself. I first noticed my weight gain in the shower when I turned and saw a bunch of back fat. Then, I realized none of my clothes fit, and the scale had gone up 50 pounds. I just kept using those realizations as motivational factors. I kept reminding myself how I wanted to be able to fit my clothes again, not feel uncomfortable in my skin, and not be afraid to take pictures.

How did you change your eating habits?
I started working out six days a week and started eating very clean. I also stopped eating out for the majority of the time and stopped drinking alcohol. I began to eat a lot of protein, like eggs, chicken, turkey, and fish. Because I was doing so well with my weight loss journey, I ended up competing in my first bodybuilding competition once I lost all the weight (I took third place in the competition)!

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you workout?
I worked out six days a week doing a lot of weight lifting and cardio.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
184 pounds was my starting weight and got down to 129 pounds.

What is your height?
5’3″

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in June 2018. I was able to compete and be at 129 lbs in November 2018.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I learned that you have to trust the process. Only you can make a difference and make a change. If you want something bad enough, like weight loss, you have to put in the work, the time and the dedication! If you don’t put in the work, don’t expect the results you’re looking for!

What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Put in the work! I know it’s hard, scary, and uncomfortable. Wouldn’t you rather be uncomfortable for a short amount of time vs. the rest of your life. The results are completely worth it! I put the work in, and now I am in a MUCH better mental and physical space. I don’t get out of breath easily, and I am more comfortable in my own skin. I’m not afraid to be in a bikini anymore, and I’m not afraid to take pictures.
